UWIC share secrets of text success
Saturday, March 31st, 2007THE University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) are leading the way when it comes to communicating with new students using the latest technology.
As an early adopter of SMS text messaging in 2003, UWIC has been at the forefront of customer relationship development, engaging students in the initial stages of their application journey through their preferred medium the mobile phone.
ElinMarie Griffiths, UWIC’ s CRM Marketing Officer, was invited to talk about UWIC’ s fouryear experience at the recent Edutxt SMS messaging conference at the University of Leeds.
“SMS messaging allows us to manage relevant and timely communication with both new and existing students, supporting our customer relations and conversion rates through to enrolment,” she said.
“Mobile is the choice medium of our key target segments and there is no better way to deliver appropriate information, directly into the palm of the hand. The commercial partner Edutxt also provide reply route mechanisms for the students to continue their ongoing dialogue with the university and UWIC’s Student Services unit offers a fine example of how SMS messaging supports the management of their counseling appointments, offering students a superior confidential service.”
She was speaking alongside a delegation of leading technology experts from within the UK education sector, sharing their experiences of how the integration of SMS text messaging and other new media technology into the marketing mix has supported student recruitment and retention initiatives.
