Mill Systems, healthcare IT specialists, today launch a new service to help Sexual Health and GU Medicine clinics speed up the time to deliver test results to patients whilst also reducing the pressure on frontline staff answering calls from patients anxious to know their results.

The Mill systems TeleCare version of Meditxt will enable clinics to recall patients, and provide them with ‘no contact’ (ie. all clear) or ‘contact us’ requests regarding test results, thus saving costs, increasing efficiency and significantly reducing the administrative and material overheads of a manual reminder and rebooking service.

Cy-nap and Mill Systems have collaborated to provide SMS text messaging within the TeleCare product for Sexual Health and GU Medicine clinics. The solution is fully integrated and allows the TeleCare user to send and receive SMS text messages from any module within it, this includes: patient master index, clinic diary and test diagnosis and results. With this core integration comes the ability to text patients regarding any type of communication, tackling issues such as DNAs and long waiting lists.

Meditxt is a browser-based, automated SMS text tool, which is based upon the txttools application suite and service, and tailored for specific use in the healthcare industry by Mill Systems. The tool integrates with both Mill Systems’ TeleCare product and other PAS systems used throughout the NHS. With a cost per text message of just 10 pence, TeleCare Meditxt can be set up to contact patients according to the preferences of the individual healthcare specialist. Any information exchanged will automatically be updated to the patient record, ensuring these are always accurate and up-to-date. While similar services are currently available for General Practitioners, TeleCare Meditxt is one of the first automated text tools for NHS hospital GU clinics.

Sam Morrison of Mill Systems “With 55 million mobile phone users in the UK, 70% of whom actively send and receive text messages; this is an ideal opportunity to increase the efficiency of the NHS and service provision. As healthcare specialists, Mill Systems has teamed up with txttools to deliver a system that fits the special requirements of the service, and can provide significant benefit to the clinics, healthcare professionals, as well as their patients.” He continues “TeleCare users are taking great interest in this as they are able to save clinic time, and therefore money, by improving workflow and communications. Patients are able to benefit from a higher level of access and service to and from the clinic. Real benefits from innovation, coupled with an open market where patients are able to be included without having to acquire additional cost is very attractive.”

Chris Booth of technology partner Cy-nap “The technology is now available to potentially reshape the way we communicate simple messages within the NHS. Furthermore, it is proven to have a significant positive impact in other areas of the public sector such as education. By intelligently integrating mobile technology within their existing healthcare IT systems, Mill Systems is making the provision of healthcare services more efficient and accessible.”

About Mill Systems

Mill Systems were established in July 2003 following a management buy out of the TeleCare Software from iSOFT Plc. The company’s principle aim was to bring all existing TeleCare customers under a direct service level agreement. This objective was met in full and Mill Systems were proud to convert all 40 plus hospital clinics within the first 12 months. Since then the company has developed TeleCare into a truly desirable Clinical Information System that is being used within Sexual Health, GU Medicine, Diabetes, Elderly Services, and Health Psychology and has even been configured for a Veterinary Hospital System.

Mill Systems take pride in their service and support capabilities and all the staff are TeleCare specialists involved with its original and ongoing development, therefore ensuring the customer receives the very best in customer care. We also hold regular user group meetings for feedback and these serve as one of the main catalysts for future product development. “The future of TeleCare is in your hands”.
