NetDoctor launches a week-by-week guide to baby’s development as a text message service for parents 2 B

LONDON – 24th July 2002
NetDoctor.co.uk announces the launch of BabyText, a new service to help parents-to-be track their baby’s developmental milestones during pregnancy.

Parents no longer have to wait for a scan to visualise what’s going on in the womb, and there is plenty going on:
• Baby’s heart starts to beat as early as week 5.
• Fingers and toes are well defined by week 8.
• By week 21, baby reacts to sounds and starts having a regular sleeping and waking rhythm.
• By week 28, baby can open and close its eyes.

The information is delivered directly to the user’s mobile phone when they opt in. Users are charged a nominal amount on their mobile phone bill or pay-as-you-go account. The cost for receiving the nine-month BabyText service is only £10. Users can cancel the service at any time either via the web site or from their mobile phone handset.

To experience BabyText for yourself, take a look at http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/babytext.shtml. Simply fill in your due date for the birth as advised by your GP or midwife – BabyText will work out the rest. At present the service is available on Vodaphone, O2 (BT CellNet), Orange and T-Mobile.

“This is an exciting new service for us – we know from our Pregnancy Community that Mums-and-Dads-to-be are very interested in their baby’s development in the womb, and we hope that the BabyText service can help them experience the amazing developmental changes that occur over a nine-month pregnancy,” commented Alex Ballantyne, NetDoctor CEO.

BabyText is the second in a series of text message services offered by NetDoctor. The first, a contraceptive pill reminder, was launched in May and is proving popular with women who want to avoid signing up for BabyText! Soon users will be able to choose from a variety of NetDoctor text services in addition to BabyText and Pill Reminder; NetDoctor is also working on a Quit Smoking text service and a series of daily health tips from Dr Hilary Jones.

BabyText is powered by txttools software and is one in a comprehensive suite of SMS text products for the mobile technology-using consumer, see more at www.txttools.co.uk
